Anyone who wishes to qualify as a solicitor is required to complete a training contract regardless of which way that person has completed their studies.
The idea of a training contract is to bring both the academic and the vocational studies which a student will have completed into the floor level work experience. Once the training contract has been completed, the trainee will have a good grounding to further the rest of their career.
There are different ways of completing the training contract. The most common way to complete the training contract is via two years of full time work after completion of all studies. An alternative method is the four year study training contract, which may be completed full time over four years or more while a student is completing their legal studies. There are other ways of completing a training contract and the law society's website will have further details on these.
